Invitations
I attended the National Stationery Show for four days last week in NYC. The show was very well attended, which bodes well for the industry. Since the invitation sets the tone for the party or event, it was interesting to see how many choices there were from the newest in traditional and formal to the different and very colorful, fun and funky. Favors were also big! I know there are some who choose not to have favors, but who still doesn't like to take home a "goody bag?" The chandelier motif was big in both invitations, stationery and favors. What's your take on different invitations and favors?

Wedding favors are a waste. Put that money toward the open bar or after wedding hotel party -- and make your guests truly happy!
Wedding favors don't have to be big and expensive but make it something memorable or edible!
Thanks, New Mom, I agree! We all like to leave with a "little something!"
Dear Party Lady: Got any suggestions for Web sites that offer inexpensive, but nice favors?
My daughter just got married and we spent a lot of time trying to figure out favors that didn't cost a lot and people would like. It seemed like a lot of energy on a small item during a stressful time. We eventually bought party favor bubbles that people used outside the church as the happy couple left after the ceremony. But by that time, I didn't care what the favors were! Thanks!
I feel like the "little somethings" are "little nothings" that are either over looked or tossed in the trash can.
So how do you provide the guests with trinkets that won't collect dust, without spending a fortune?
My suggestion (I work as a wedding photography assistant sometimes) is to do other nice things:
Provide shawls for female guests to keep them cozy when the sun sets.
Or ballet slippers for those guests with uncomfortable shoes.
Or bottled water and mints for the ride home.
Or have your photographer do polaroids of each couple and give them to them.
Or put together milk and donut packages for your overnight guests.
But stay away from the traditional favors!
Kathy, here are two websites that offer all price favors. Check out www.beau-coup.com and weddingshop.theknot.com
Also try An Affair to Remember, a wonderful resource on Route 9 in Fishkill. They're having a huge moving sale, 50% off!! Good luck!
We treated our guests to lovely individual boxes of chocalate truffles and they were a big hit. At one table the guests who didn't care for chocalate auctioned theirs to the highest bidder - the currency? Shrimp cocktail:) They had such a good time doing this that later they each individually told us the story of how much fun they had, and what an icebreaker it was for those at the table who didn't know anyone else. I vote favors - yes!
mgm, what a great idea!! Thanks so much for sharing!
