Attending the wedding ceremony

Does anyone else wonder why the wedding ceremony is not as well attended as the wedding reception? I brought the programs for 150 guests to a wedding on Saturday and had about 100 programs left after the church ceremony. Is this a new trend? I hope not!

Maybe the reason some people don't attend the wedding is that there can be such a long interval between the ceremony and the reception, and guests have nowhere to go in between. I understand the need for photographs, but sometimes the waiting around can be deadly dull. If guests gpo directly to the reception hall and start drinking early, that can be a problem too. Is there a way to solve this?

Susan, I hear what you are saying and I have been in that position before of having a stretch of time between the ceremony and the reception. Sometimes it doesn't have anything to do with the photographs, I've seen the church times not coincide with the start of the reception. It does prove troublesome! Anyone else with ideas??

The bride should give her guests a place to go in between the wedding ceremony and reception, like a cocktail party. That's what we did for my wedding. While my bridal party took pictures for the 2 hours between, my parents hosted a wonderful cocktail party. Everyone was happy and everyone also attended BOTH events!
